Breaking His Rules

Growing up in a group home with my two brothers taught me one lessonearly: if you want someone safe, you protect them yourself.

Now I'm the CEO of one of the most successful security companies in theworld. I like structure, control, and knowing exactly what's going tohappen next.

When my best friend asks me to provide security for his engagementparty, I agree as a favor. I expect an easy job.

Instead, I meet Ruby Smith, who treats my rules like optionalsuggestions.

I'm used to being obeyed. Ruby clearly doesn't plan on doing that. Noteven a little.

She tempts me like no one else ever has and somehow slips past everydefense I've spent years building. Before long, I'm looking for her themoment I walk into a room. Saving her a seat beside me. Making sure shegets home safely in the evening.

Looking after Ruby becomes instinct, and that's a problem.

Because she makes me want things I've spent years convincing myself Idon't need.

But the closer I get to her, the harder it becomes to remember why Ibuilt those walls in the first place.
