Gold, Guns, and Grizzlies: Montana’s Wild Ride

Montana has always been more than big skies and pretty mountains. It is a state built on contradictions, chaos, and characters who could outdrink, outshoot, and out-stubborn anyone in the West. From gold strikes that birthed lawless boomtowns to cattle herds that froze where they stood, from Copper Kings who bought senators like poker chips to hippies who planted carrots next to doomsday preppers polishing rifles, Montana’s story is one long, unpredictable ride.

In Gold, Guns, and Grizzlies, Jordan Blake Carter takes you through the hilarious, gritty, and often absurd history of the Treasure State. You’ll meet vigilantes who hanged more neighbors than outlaws, homesteaders who discovered optimism is not a substitute for rainfall, and tourists who thought bison were selfie-friendly. Along the way, you’ll find out why Montanans curse the government while cashing its checks, how Butte’s mines helped light the world while filling the air with poison, and why the state’s most reliable export might just be contradictions.

Equal parts history lesson and comedy roast, this is Montana as you’ve never seen it: wild, weird, and utterly unforgettable.
