Bangladesh is a country of rivers. In this country of rivers, the Padma is not just a river, it is a symbol of the emotions, struggle for survival and history and tradition of the people of the country. After originating from the Gangotri glacier in the Himalayas and flowing as the Ganges in India, this river entered Bangladesh through Shibganj in Chapainawabganj district. It was named Padma only after entering Bangladesh.The Padma River is vast and majestic. Just as its calm appearance is mind-blowing, its turbulent appearance during the rainy season makes the heart tremble. To the people on the banks, the Padma is on the one hand a life-giving mother, and on the other hand an all-consuming form. The happiness and sorrows of the people on both sides of the river, the struggle for life, the laughter and tears—everything is tied to the flow of this Padma. For thousands of years, the Padma River has enriched Bangladesh with fertile alluvium, but it has also swept away the dreams of millions of people in erosion and floods.
