Son of Ember

Magic will be his destruction . . . or his salvation. The first book in a high-stakes, epic fantasy series from beloved book content creator and debut author Luke Bateman.

Like most of the boys in his logging town, fourteen-year-old Ayun Dawns dreams of becoming a tree feller. But his world is ripped apart when his mother is murdered by a man in glowing armour, forcing him to flee the only home he’s ever known.

With nowhere else to go, Ayun finds himself in a city orphanage. Life is tough and uncertain, until he meets Faith – a fellow orphan and a bright light in his dark world.

But once Faith is adopted and he loses her too, Ayun becomes determined to forge a path for himself by joining the Academy of the Fist – an elite military force sworn to eradicate weavers, those who wield forbidden magic. Grit and resolve earn him his place at the academy, where brutal training proves less horrifying than the secret he discovers: Ayun is a weaver.

As he rises up the ranks of the Fist, hiding the truth becomes unbearable . . . But if he reveals his secret, he risks his life.

Someone knows what Ayun is, though, and they have plans for him that could shatter the barrier between gods and mortals, plunging the world into chaos.
